Les Jamelles

Lovely pale yellow color. Rich, aromatic wine, with intense scents of fruit mingled with typical Sauvignon aromas such as gooseberries, passion fruit, green tomatoes, wild strawberries and lemons. It also displays floral nuances (honeysuckle), and a mineral "flinty" scent from the limestone soil. This is a very fresh wine with good acidity and a natural hint of CO2 which gives it freshness. The finish is rich, round and well-balanced. This is a very fresh, easy drinking wine, ideal for an apéritif or for drinking with food. Food: Serve well chilled (8°C), as an apéritif, with seafood, fish or summer dishes (asparagus, mixed salads).

Wine Advocate

The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc smells of ripe melon, fresh lime, and herbs; offers an attractive balance between lushness and brightness on the palate; and finishes with refreshment, its hints of bitterness and tartness not at all out of place. Enjoy this over the next 9-12 months. Les Jamelles’s wines continue to be well-sourced from throughout the greater Languedoc and include some notable values. The latest collection was even more consistent in quality than that I tasted last year. Among the latest releases I tasted, only a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Les Jamelles – while pleasant – failed to really rise to the level of notable value.

Score: 86. —David Schildknecht, August 2009.
